Nice Work!

Love it. Don't see Battletoads remixes EVER. For this, you get a fav song and artist from me. I remixed the ice cavern from the same game. ;)

CyprusX responds:

Thanks for your review!

Great idea.

Great background track for exactly what you defined it as. I personally would say that with the lack of variation, try to trim it down into a meaningful 3:00-3:30 track. I would also suggest using an anvil FX if you have one (great for factory-like tracks). You can just pitch-down hats to get the same effect also. Vary the pads a bit from bar to bar, and I think you've got a solid track!

EfficaciousSavant responds:

Thanks, I definatley planned on shortening it a bit like you mentioned. I'll look into the advice you gave. It's nice to see someone who gives a solid review, thanks.

Not sure what to think...

...about this one. Seems like it needs some sound effects or percussion to accompany the strings/piano. Also, the beginning is a bit harsh, maybe try to fade it in? Could use a little work. If I were you, I would consider it a work in progress. Maybe try a flutter flute between :40 and 1:00? Just needs a bit more variation in my opinion!

Nice

By far the best one of yours yet I think I've heard. Good job finding synths that sound like the original. Now, the lead synths were still still a little intrusive to listen to; compared to the original, the pitch just sounded a little off (maybe just me).

Good work and keep 'em coming.

Daxter1537 responds:

thanx for the review dude, after a few closer listens, the does sounds a little off, but i was kinda going for a pitch bend type thing . Also the lead synth at 1:18 kinda bugs me. Anyways thanx for the review and ill do my best to well, to my best :D

Better use of FX here

The main synth is quite a bit too loud compared to the rest of the instruments which drowns out the drums when it plays. Also, I'm not really sure I like the choice of instrument, but that's a matter of opinion. Good pitch blending and good use of effects on the base synth (I like the ping-pong effect...it can be quite good). My next suggestion would be to work with compression in the master FX channels so the song doesn't come out to loud, and end up cutting out frequencies (like the drums I was talking about). Be sure to watch the FL peak meter at the top. If this turns red, that means you have too much noise going on and need to tweak (this is where loading the presets of the master channels in demo projects can come in handy if you aren't overly familiar with the Fruity Compressor and Fruity Parametric EQ). I have a feeling a lot of your songs are peaking out. :)

Also, my next suggestion would be to try changing instruments as the song progresses. You can even just play through the theme twice without note variation and still get an original listening experience with a little variation. I'm almost finished with my Cosmo mix, so I'll be sure to let you know when it goes up on NG!

Daxter1537 responds:

hey man thanx for the review and for the words of wisdom. I too noticed that the synth was too loud, and im going to be working on that sometime this week. I'm also very keen on hearing your cosmo mix, PM me when you get it up :D

You Earned My Respect

You deserve that contract, cause you got talent. This is pretty radical man.

Yeah, I like it

You're better at this than I am. I like the smooth progression between parts of the song. Great work with the filters and arps in FLStudio as well. Great piano by the way, what plugin do you use in FL to get it to sound like that? My only reason this isn't a 10 is because the compression and EQ sounds a bit off at some parts and doesn't quite mesh together well. Only criticism though. The composition is simply great though. 5/5; 9/10

Wow

I am impressed. What software do you use? That right there, is simply bad ass. I'd be interested to hear what you could reinterpreting one of my mixes. You should message me :). The song is awesome. Love the vocals and the variety. My eardrums literally had orgasms.

Gravey responds:

Mainly EastWest sample libraries were used in making this piece.

Respect

Very human piano, and as a mixer, I can appreciate the effort that goes into that without playing it yourself :)

Definitely Gettin' There

Very accurate to the original even down to the pitch on the lead guitar which was a nice touch. Again, keep working with the FX tracks in FLStudio to enhance the overall sound of all instruments (I also use FL). One trick I've found is to open up some of the demo projects and look at the way they set up FX channels on certain instruments (a bass drum or piano for example), and save those FX presets so that you can load them into your own projects and make minor adjustments from there. This is much better than having to completely arrange your own FX.

I'd like to hear a Cosmo Canyon remake...always one that I wanted to try (plus you could try using reverb on the toms and congas) ;)

Daxter1537 responds:

well man, thanx for the tip, never thought to save the presets and use them. Good idea, and ill see what i can do with cosmo canyon.

Thanx for the Review :D

I do mostly video game remixes found in the Audio Portal. If anyone has suggestions or requests for a song from a particular game, shoot me a PM, I just might make it! ;)
