Orchestra Well Done

You did a good job with this. More of a remake rather than a remix, but still good nonetheless. Would really like to see some other songs from this game with the same orchestral feeling. I remixed this song myself ;)

ScienceOfThePS3 responds:

Thanks! I actually just took a peek at yours and I like it as well.

Nicely Done

Very good remix of Flash Man's theme...I love it! One thing this song could use is more depth by adding effects to the instruments and usually slower ambiance songs have background effects, etc.. I hope that you keep the file for this one, because trust me, if you revisit this in two years when you've learned some more quirks and techniques, you'll be surprised how much better you can make it sound.

But the composition is totally awesome. Very nicely done!

BallinFatty responds:

thanks for the advice

i totally forgot about the effects. i had some but i didnt even think about going to use them

i'll remember that

thanks again for review and 8!!

Could use some work, but good!

I like it overall. I think I read on one of your comments that you use the trial version of FL? One thing that I think would improve all of your songs greatly is use of general mastering with the Multiband Compressor and/or parametric equilizer plug-ins (which are in the trial version of FL). If you want to know what settings I'd suggest, message me. It'd really punch up your songs a lot.

Also, one thing you can do is find an older trial version of FL (v3.0) and sequence the song in that, because the older versions allow you to save your work. The newer trial can still open the older FL files, so all you have to is modify instruments. It's sort of a workaround the "no-save" feature of the new FL Studio without having to buy the real deal.

Tiredguy responds:

Thanks for the review! Yeah, I definitely see your point. I made all these ff6 tracks this summer, so it's a little late for these ones, but I definitely have learned a few things about equalizing and stereo separation since then, though I still don't think I have much of an ear for the whole equalizing thing, but the stereo separation thing I think I've got the hang of.
Maybe I'll go back and see if I can redo a few...
Thanks for the advice on the workaround for FL saving!

Well...

Like I said with your other song, drum variation could help. Also, try using a simple reverb and Parametric EQ on the drums to punch them up a bit. Even FL demo has those. I use FL Studio 7, so I know that the beat has much more potential. I really like the background noise, definitely the best part of the song.

No offense, but whatever instrument that main theme is played in is wretched ;)

DJ-Zoysa responds:

HAHAHAHA! I KNOW RIGHT!!!

yeh man i made this pretty much a year ago!!! this is like maybe 2 days after i got fl 7 demo (lulz) i didnt even know how to put in effects then or how to open the mixer! thanks for ur tips, i'll take it into account

cheers, DJ Zoysa

Decent beat, good ambiance

I like the basis of what you are going with here. I'd like to hear the ambiance and sound effects lead into the drum beat. While you have a good SOUNDING drum loop, it could use some variation and depth with maybe some congas or side stick.

Keep working on this. I think that if you just play it through, adding some notched tunes or other instruments with the beat, you could have a pretty complete song!

DJ-Zoysa responds:

thanks so much ;D

yes this is back in the dasy where i'd chuck the drum in first off without kinda leading into it with even a couple of kicks then progressing into the main drum, or with an instrument first.

im glad that a year ago my songs are still getting pretty alright reviews!

cheers, DJ Zoysa

Good tune, but...

I like the basic tune. A little repetitive towards the end, but a good basis for an original piece.

What program do you use for music rendering? I think you could probably do a lot better for a realistic sounding piano. That would be my only major concern with this piece.

SoulRed12 responds:

Hey thanks for the review =D

I'm using Garage Band right now, I know that's not exactly the top of the line but hey, it's free, and that just happens to be my budget limit XD I suppose I'll fiddle with the settings to see if I can make it sound more realistic and maybe I'll re-upload or something.

Pretty good!

I like it a lot for an 8-bit piece. Well done.

hessproject responds:

Thanks a lot!

I do mostly video game remixes found in the Audio Portal. If anyone has suggestions or requests for a song from a particular game, shoot me a PM, I just might make it! ;)
